Definition of Stress - What is Stress?

Definition of Stress

Millions of people around the world are affected by stress everyday. Working men and women are often victims of this very common health condition. But what exactly is the stress? Why are there many people suffering from it? How can you avoid this harmful health problem?

The most common definition of stress refers to it as the body’s reaction to changes resulting from physical, mental, emotional, or psychological adjustment. You can easily be stressed from experiences or incidents that make you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, anxious, and other unpleasant emotions. Stress is also connected to the feeling of tiredness, burn out, and the weakening of the body’s defenses.

Classification of Stress

• Physical

Stress is categorized as physical if your whole body suffers from pain like muscle aches in the shoulders, neck, and forehead. Other symptoms of physical stress are digestive problems like loose bowel movement and constipation. If not treated, it can lead to serious health problems like ulcers, insomnia, high blood pressure, heart diseases, and many more.

• Emotional

This classification of stress affects the mind. It is characterized by the feelings of anxiety, anger, depression, irritability, frustration, over reaction, disappointment, insecurity, and many more. If you are suffering from emotional stress, you easily get emotionally affected and lack concentration especially in your job.

• Psychological

This is a very serious type of stress. If you are often psychologically stressed, you become withdrawn from society and prone to compulsive behaviors. Moreover, you experience having phobias on things which you are not afraid of before. You also experience eating disorders like lack of appetite and having nightmares.

Stress is very dangerous indeed especially if you don’t take action right away. Stay fit, strong, and healthy by preventing stress from taking over your whole well-being.
