Setting and Achieving Goals - The Steps to Powerful Goals

Setting and Achieving Goals

"The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where (s)he is going."
--David Starr Jordan

Setting goals is necessary because it is the key to do, be and experience what you want in life. Life is what we make it. Goals let you make your life happen instead of letting life happen to you. Setting goals is your first step to achieving goals. Setting and achieving goals is an important action to enhance personal growth.

Often, people who have a vision of their desired life set goals, whether short-term or long-term, to achieve them. By setting goals, you are guiding your life to where you want to go. Setting goals is like navigating, with a map, to the port of your dreams. Successful people follow through their goals. The champions often know what they want in life and achieve it by setting goals or plans; while losers just allow life to happen by accident. Setting and achieving goals shouldn’t be difficult.

When setting goals, consider the six P’s: positive, personal, present tense, possible, precise, powerful. Write down goals like you are more likely to achieve it. Write goals in a particular fashion to allow your subconscious to be constantly alert to things that will help you push yourself towards your goal. The six P’s in goal setting will help give your goal an impact.

First, state your goals in positive terms and in present tense. For example, have “I am getting a nice three-bedroom house in an exclusive village in California” rather than “I am not getting a nice three-bedroom house if not in an exclusive village in California”. Writing goals in positive and present tense as if they are happening now to set your subconscious mind operate in the “now”. Your goals must be personal and precise. They have to be about you, and you must have a clear and detailed vision of them so achieving your goals is easier. Also, your goals should be possible or achievable by you. It should be realistic and within your realm. Of course, you cannot become a popular singer if you do not have the talent. Moreover, use powerful words that express emotion and action.

It is very important to write attainable goals. Setting goals that are unrealistic are very difficult to achieve. Instead, these goals will only lead you to depression and losing of motivation. One more important thing to achieving your goals is to break down your achievable goals into smaller goals. Work on achieving smaller goals that lead to your ultimate goals. Remember that “success” is a process. To succeed in life, which is to achieve your major goal, is not an instant accomplishment. You need to work on it step by step.

Visions are the pictures of accomplishments we have of ourselves; and these visions are a great factor that affect the results of our efforts to realize our goals. If we envision ourselves achieving what we want to be in life, we very likely will. On the other hand, if we have no vision or picture of success, we will likely fail. Seeing yourself setting and achieving goals. Winners talk and think like winners. Real achievers envision themselves achievers.
